We have all heard of star gazing before, but have you heard of Candle Gazing?
Trataka might sound like a magic spell from Harry Potter or a new song by Shakira but is actually the sanskit word for "gazing" and used as a yogic purification and meditation method.
It involves staring at a candle flame (or any other small object) to help the mind focus and improve concentration.
Trataka is mentioned in the Hatha Yoga Pradipika, an ancient 15th century Sanskrit manual on Hata Yoga. It's one of six purifucation techniques in Yoga, designed to clear the body and mind.
